Global Healthcare Strategy & Solutions

Helping you navigate the global healthcare landscape since 2008

At Glasslyn, we understand Global Healthcare

Throughout the world the cost of delivering comprehensive, population-wide, healthcare has become unsustainable. It’s time to think differently about the end-to-end health and care value chain and focus on what really matters. This is where our expertise lies, and unlike others who operate in this space, we have real world experience of grappling with these challenges and creating solutions across multiple healthcare sectors.

We work with national health systems, commercial insurers, providers of care and health technology companies to develop strategy and create practical solutions.

Next time you find yourself thinking about hiring one of the established consulting houses, why don’t you give us a call? We guarantee we’ll be able to offer you intelligent, nuanced and practical insight at a fraction of the cost.

Our Team

We are a globally dispersed team with a unique set of combined talents. Each project we work on is different, but there is one commonality to our approach, and that is to deliver unrivalled insight and practical advice to our clients.

Wherever you are in the world we’d be happy to have a discussion about how we could help you achieve your goals.

What We Do

Healthcare is complicated. There are numerous stakeholders along the care delivery value chain and they often do not work in harmony. This frequently leads to inefficiency, higher costs and poor outcomes.

We are a team who have senior clinical and managerial experience across this continuum and who bring real-world, actionable insights to organisations looking to improve how they function and position themselves in this ever evolving landscape.

Payers and Insurers

No healthcare funding model is without its problems for the simple reason that delivering high quality, timely and effective care is expensive, however, there is a considerable amount of wastage that occurs from funding poor care, wrong care and sometimes too much care.

Whatever your base funding model we can help you identify approaches to reducing financial leakage from three standpoints; (i) reviewing and revising coverage, specifically what is and isn’t covered by the  policy or plan, (ii) how provider care is contracted and the parameters that are established to ensure consistent and cost-effective delivery, (iii) critically examining what is being billed and ensuring that unwarranted variation in care is minimized.

Hospitals and Provider Groups

Where individuals choose to access healthcare is increasingly a decision that is expanding outside of their immediate geographical location.

A large expat population, a growing global insured middle class, and for some a dissatisfaction with local care provision, is fueling a rapid growth in health tourism, an industry that is rapidly approaching $100bn in size. How do providers stand out in this competitive marketplace?

Our global experience in accreditation, quality assessment and front-line care delivery, in both the private and public healthcare sectors, supports providers on a journey to differentiating themselves and attracting more high value patients in this increasingly competitive market.

Health Technology Companies

Technology is integral to how medicine is practised.

From the advent of the x-ray in the late 19th century, through biotech advances in diagnosis and treatment of historically fatal diseases, the embedding of technology in the delivery of healthcare has had a profound effect on longevity and quality of life.

The past 30 years has seen internet and computer technology transform how we live and work, it also has the potential to transform how we deliver health and care and make it more affordable. Although billions of dollars have been invested in healthtech companies over this period we are, with a few notable exceptions, yet to really see this deliver the much promised transformation of care delivery.

As seasoned healthtech entrepreneurs, with a track record of building and exiting businesses in the sector, we are ideally placed to help health technology companies throughout the lifecycle of their products and services. Having cool technology is one thing, embedding it in clinical workflows and demonstrating tangible health impacts is often the hardest part of creating a viable and sustainable proposition.

Our Approach

Examples of projects we’ve worked on:

USA

Health Tech Startup

We helped a startup health services company develop a suite of online products to differentiate themselves in a relatively crowded marketplace. This, together with refreshing their value proposition, helped the company grow from less than $1m to over $15m in revenue over a 2 year timeframe.

UK

Health Insurance Company

We worked with an established domestic health insurance company to develop a digital health strategy specifically geared to augmenting their core business and existing offline solutions. Key to this piece of work was identifying capabilities that were necessary to have in-house and those that could be outsourced to external vendors.

USA

Private Clinic Group

A rapidly expanding concierge medical network needed to engage their patients in targeted discussions around preventive health, wellness and self-care. We created a bespoke, HIPAA compliant, online health assessment that provided a consistent approach to gathering important health information that their doctors could use in creating personalized health improvement plans.

Peru

Integrated Healthcare Company

Working with an established insurance company who had recently started to expand into healthcare delivery we performed “diagnostics” on core capabilities and quality metrics within their existing facilities. We created a roadmap for future operational and clinical enhancement to help them focus resources in order to reach their ten year goal of being the most trusted care provider in the region.

USA

Global Management Consulting Organization

We were embedded within a larger team from one of the major business consulting groups to work on a project for a large global pharmaceutical company. We provided clinical subject matter expertise and international marketing experience to the group who were developing recommendations on how to increase international awareness around a specific disease.

Europe

Hospital Group

Helping a multisite hospital group decide whether expanding their operations into the UK was a viable financial proposition. We provided detailed information on the UK healthcare landscape, including the major players in the space and the potential size of the addressable market. In addition we developed possible approaches for how they could leverage their existing capabilities to fast-track market entry.

EUROPE

Global Health Insurance Company

We assisted a global health insurer by performing a comprehensive evaluation of AI symptom checker software vendors. Based on our findings they contracted with our recommended vendor and implemented their solution for their insured customers in specific geographies. This was initially a pilot implementation, however, following a positive business case evaluation, it was rolled out across the organization. This project highlights the different facets of our expertise that are required to properly integrate new technological solutions into the broader ecosystem of a health insurer.

USA

Global Management Consulting Organization

We were embedded within a larger team from one of the major business consulting groups to work on a project for a large global pharmaceutical company. We provided clinical subject matter expertise and international marketing experience to the group who were developing recommendations on how to increase international awareness around a specific disease.

Our Clients

I have worked closely with Peter in the development of integrated management reporting for a range of healthcare services. Peter has a keen eye for detail and takes a very analytical approach to his work. He delivers in line with agreed timescales and is also effective and highly credible in presenting information to clients. I recommend Peter highly.

Paul Nattrass
Commercial Director

I worked with Peter on a couple of strategic product development initiatives at RedBrick. He has deep experience in developing validated health assessment tools and consumer coaching solutions. He leverages his clinical background & expertise, but also blends that with a deep understanding and appreciation for how technology can enable an amazing and engaging consumer experience. Peter is a very collaborative person and was fun to work with. I'm very proud of the work we did together and look forward to working with him again. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is considering working with or partnering with him.

Wendy Masloski
Vice President, Technology Delivery Management

While working for Peter while he was Chief Medical Officer at vielife/Cigna, helping him to develop the virtual world based health care delivery pilot, it became obvious that Peter was this rare combination of visionary client, combined with a good dose of pragmatism of how to realize his vision, grounded in medical knowledge of what's required and missing in today's attempt to deliver change people's behavior, but also a detailed-oriented, disciplined manager, all mixed with a wonderful humorous and fun-to-work-with personality. I can only highly recommend him to anybody working with him as a business partner, consultant, or client of his.

Claus Nehmzow
Global Technology Advisor

Peter has the rare combination of medical expertise and commercial acumen. He was a key member of our Leadership Team, and the outcomes for our customers and shareholders speak for themselves. Ultimately the test for any personal recommendation is would you work with that person again? We are launching a new business together (HealthyWorlds), so undoubtedly yes!
